Traveling embryologist

Has anyone tried to work with an embryologist who travels to clinics to do the specialized PGD biopsy?

Reprogenetics needs to send someone to my clinic to do the biopsy. Last time I missed the cut off and my embryos had to be frozen because the embryologist couldn't get here in time.

I am wondering if this is typical or if most places have folks on staff with these skills. Next nearest qualifiedhospital (2 hrs away) is the same.

I just had my phone consult with RGI. I haven't decided on an RE yet and I asked them about RMANJ. I live in NJ and considered making an appointment with them but made an appt at SIMR NYC at the advice of the women on this board. They said RMANJ has their own in house lab and they do all their chromosome testing in house. Then they send the chromosomally normal embryos to RGI (or I guess another lab if you have probes there) for single gene testing. She said this sometimes slows the timeline a little (eg you might not be able to do ET on the next cycle).

Please let us know how the consult goes. I totally understand how you are feeling. I will be 36 in September and always wanted to have 3 healthy kids. Now I'll feel like if I have 1 healthy kid, I'll be lucky.

I already have a single gene test probe built by Reprogenetics. I literally waited 10 months for it to be built (so frustrating). It cost about $9000. It is finally ready. I've done 3 (mostly unsuccessful) cycles locally in the meantime, which would have been gender selection cycles, since the issue we are testing for is x linked. Now we can get more specific. I have 4 frozen embryos to test, as well.

The folks on the phone at RMANJ said they'd be able to work with Reprogenetics. So, I hope there are no issues with that. I am a little anxious to see how that will work.

As I've followed this board, it seems RGI and SIMR are the preferred providers (I can't even find SIMR in a Google search). I am already tee'ed up with Reprogenetics very hopeful I will have success with them.

For the past year I've been working with a local IVF clinic that was ALL ABOUT personal attention and totally lacking PGD experience, so I think it may be refreshing to switch to the other end of the spectrum.

I wanted to go to an experienced IVF/pgd clinic that people recommended. So many people on this site recommended SIMR (sher) so I just made an appointment with them. I've thought of making an appointment at RMANJ too but I thought it might be overkill since I've been to UPenn for a consult to. If I do make an appt at RMANJ I would like it to be with a doc that people have had a good experience with. Maybe I'll make a post on the IVF board and see if the women there have any recommendations. I'm concerned about the travel time for SIMR NYC bc most likely I would have to take the train. RMANJ might be more convenient because I could drive there. I'm also concerned about the prices since the IVF portion would be out of pocket.

Though I am a huge fan of SIRM SHER Institute, I have heard good things about RMANJ, my ONLY concern is that I heard ( not sure if it was only their other office) is that some have a hatching blast biopsy blast rule only. Meaning your embryo has to be at that stage in order to biopsy them, so not sure if they allow the others to grow or discard. SIRM biopsied everything for me, even one embryo 3 times because it kept coming back as inconclusive and ultimately came back as unaffected. 1 one the 4 I transferred so who knows!
