Technology has grown at an unbelievable speed in the recent past. Quite a few industries have been changed for the better. It includes transport, banking, communication, etc. It has made a number of things a lot easier and convenient. There are some downsides as well, of course, as with anything else. The concept of privacy has gone for a toss.

Just about everyone has a lot of data on his mobile phones or his laptop. There is so much data that it can map a very close profile of you if someone wants to. It’s not totally impossible to lose your phone, for example, and if you do that, you risk losing all your data and privacy. There are ways nowadays to track your phone though if you want to.

Its easy to track where your phone is, though it may depend on the phone carrier too. There are websites that can do this, even services from the carriers themselves that can help. A few apps may need GPS but some might not. Google Latitude is one of those.

There are several possible uses of location tracking. It can, for example, help you keep an eye on where your friends are, and share your location with them. You can keep an eye on where your kids are, and that can be helpful especially if they are minors. You may not see a lot of use of it right now but there are some apps which, as technology grows, may utilize it in a unique manner.

There are free as well as paid services, as you will find out. As far as reliability goes, paid services win by a long margin. Having said that, there are some phones (iPhone for example) where you can track the phone’s location on the hardware manufacturer’s website. You have to enable that option though (Find my phone in the case of an iPhone).

When you are paying, don’t pay without knowing what you are getting. Not doing your research may see you end up losing money. The Internet provides you an easy way to do your research and thus there is absolutely no excuse for not doing so. Make sure you know all your options and check some reviews before going with one. Free services aren’t all good either. Sometimes, you may sign up to a ToS that you don’t want to, and that’s why it’s important to do your groundwork even for a free service.
