I have appreciated photography most of living. Sometimes I made money, sometimes I did not. I put 1000s of hours into a Images by Carl Kruse on National Geographic website that has not really made me a dime, yet still it consumes me, often filling the every waking thought. So the question comes up, why do I place in so much time upon something that has not made me rich, or well known, or even supported my children?

The answer to that question, like most, is probably different for each of us. But if you are at a point, or perhaps ever get to a place where you find yourself inquiring "why bother"? Perhaps this list will assist spark an answer for you personally.


1 . Photography can easily relieve stress. It gives you the excuse to be outside, to hike, to learn, and to fill your own lungs with good, clean fresh air. As you concentrate on other things, your own personal problems just seem to fade away.

2 . Pictures expands the creativity. It can be your muse, your inspiration, even a starting point for additional creative endeavors. It will help you to see the world and people in a whole new way.

3. Digital photography can be a spiritual knowledge. The rush of rising a mountain or the magic of taking baby's first grin helps put the planet in perspective. Coming in contact with the hearts of others is great... yet touching your own, sets you on the path to everlasting enlightenment.

4. Pictures is a means of communication. Yet more than that, it is a means of acquiring info. Documentation, entertainment, and revelation all originate from being able to "See" another point of view.

5. Photography can feel the hearts of others. Whether you are wanting to raise money regarding "starving kids" coming from Africa or attempting to save an "endangered species" in Alaska, nothing can win people over faster than fantastic photography.

6. Pictures can be a great profession. Imagine being paid for to go to far off places, to meet beautiful folks, to see things most people only dream of. To find that level, I need to know all I could about the art. So whether I have reached there or not, I have to keep learning a lot more.

7. Photography can easily build self esteem. Words of flattery on your work, feedback, input all inform you you're doing something worth wild. When you can take someone who is like a "nobody" and prepare her look like a Goddess, there is no greater feeling in the world (for both these styles you)!!

8. Pictures offers you the chance of immortality. Photos on the cover of Life, Time, or Nationwide Geographic magazines is visible by Billions of people. If you can move their editors, you can shift the world.

9. Pictures can unite your family. From baby photos to high school dances, to marriage and beyond, nothing can help you relate or draw closer to someone as compared to seeing what they've been through. It helps you hold onto the remembrances when everyone else is finished.

10. Photography will be my gift through God. It is our responsibility to use the actual gifts I have been given. It's what I carry out, it's who I am. Like most gifts through God, its objective is to be shared with the entire world. How can I share the things i don't understand? How can I help to make my talents grow without actively seeking out more knowledge and better understanding?

Certainly this listed is influenced by my own, personal beliefs and existence experiences; however... making a "Top Ten" list of why YOU love photography, might just be the greatest surprise you could give oneself this holiday season. Offer yourself a reason to believe you can succeed and you should.
