The speed at which technology has grown has been staggering, at least in the last few years. It has changed practically every other industry: transport, communication, information, you name it. It has contributed to making the world the easy place that it is today. With all this progress, there have been some problems that have emerged too: privacy, for one, has become scarce.

Most people nowadays have almost all their data on a few computing devices. There is enough data inside those devices to map out a profile of you. It’s not totally impossible to lose your phone, for example, and if you do that, you risk losing all your data and privacy. Not all is lost though: you can still track your phone.

Depending on the carrier you are with, you may track your phone’s location by providing the number. You can find third party services that can do it as well. A few apps may need GPS but some might not. Google Latitude is an example.

There are many other uses of a service like this, too. You can share your whereabouts with your family. You can keep an eye on where your kids are, and that can be helpful especially if they are minors. Many apps can also use something like this to provide a useful service in a way we can’t think of right now.

There are free as well as paid services, as you will find out. The paid services’ reliability is generally a lot more. Having said that, there are some phones (iPhone for example) where you can track the phone’s location on the hardware manufacturer’s website. You have to enable that option though (Find my phone in the case of an iPhone).

Of course, you shouldn’t pay without doing any research. Not doing your research may see you end up losing money. It is ridiculously easy now with the Internet to do your research. It would be best to look at more than a few options and check each one’s reviews on the Internet. Even when you are choosing a free service, make sure you know if there’s a catch (and there usually is one).
